Certified Mortgage Professional Program

The VMBA Certified Mortgage Professional designation identifies you as a professional in the mortgage finance industry. The CMP is recognition of your education, VMBA participation, professionalism, and membership in other organizations.

What is a Certified Mortgage Professional?

Meet the VMBA CMPs.

A Certified Mortgage Professional (CMP) is a designation bestowed upon a career-minded individual in the mortgage finance industry who has met the requirements of the CMP program.

  • Work experience
  • Education
  • Professional designations
  • Industry education
  • VMBA participation
  • Membership organizations
  • Other supplemental activities.
  • VMBA member recruitment

You will be awarded the CMP when you accumulate 150 points. Review requirements on the CMP Application.

Who is Eligible?

VMBA members with a minimum of one year membership, three years experience in the mortgage finance industry and the required points.  Please note, in order to continue to use the CMP designation, you must remain a member of VMBA.  Your name will be removed from the VMBA website if membership lapses, you retire, or leave the industry.

How do I Apply?

Review the points system to determine if you have achieved the required points for the CMP program. If you qualify, submit your completed application with a letter of recommendation from your employer to the VMBA. Once your CMP Application is received it will be reviewed at the next Board of Governors Meeting and you will be notified in writing of your acceptance into the program.  Click here for a copy of the CMP Application.

*Please Note: The application is a Google Document.  If your organization's network blocks access to Google Documents, you will need to access the application from a personal device.

What is the Cost?

There is a $200 application fee.

Upon acceptance, the candidate will then be awarded his/her Certified Mortgage Professional certificate and lapel pin, recognized at a VMBA event (typically the annual meeting or conference), listed on the VMBA website, and will be authorized to use the CMP designation after his/her name.
